The Story
A year ago, the brand NEREA asked me to create a collection remembering Venezuela's golden years: when La Guaira was the heart of progress and elegance was the signature of its coast.
I dove into archival photographs: women dressed like Hollywood stars, linen at the grand hotels — the Miramar, the Sheraton, the Paseo Macuto, the fountain of Santa Ana — and drew from nostalgia until every scene came together in a single toile.
A love letter to La Guaira, a place that watched me and many Venezuelans grow up.
The collection launched in early June, and days later, the earthquake.
Those places are wounded now, and above all, their people are too.
But the places and people we love don't disappear as long as we keep naming them, drawing them, and telling their stories. That is what this limited collection is dedicated to.
the prints
HOTEL MACUTO SHERATON The icon of the coast's brightest decades — where the mountain meets the sea, and the boats cut white lines across the bay. For generations of Venezuelans, La Guaira is vacation, celebration, family, friends, and home. In the golden years, many tourists also gathered at its shore. Drawn by hand from archival photographs from those years. "Memories of Macuto" is a joint initiative between the brand NEREA and Valeria Savino.
A year ago, commissioned by NEREA, I drew scenes of Macuto, Venezuela, for their clothing collection called MACUTO. Now, with a new purpose, those scenes are available for individual purchase, and $60 of every print goes directly to Fundaprocura and Alimenta la Solidaridad ($30 each), supporting the community affected by the June earthquakes.

HOTEL MIRAMAR
Venezuela's first grand hotel, and the crown of Macuto's golden coast. Its arches, towers, and striped awnings hosted the elegance of another era — afternoons of linen and sea breeze. For generations of Venezuelans, La Guaira is vacation, celebration, family, friends, and home. Drawn by hand from archival photographs from those years.

PLAYA GRANDE Umbrellas, beach chairs, a dog wandering the sand, the mountains rising green behind the water. An ordinary perfect day on the La Guaira coast — the kind of day this whole collection exists to remember. Drawn by hand from archival photographs from those years and memories of my grandmother at the beach.

PASEO MACUTO
The seaside promenade where everything happened: the evening walk, the fountain, the statue of Santa Ana watching over the water, café tables under the palms. Every coastal town has a heart — this one is Macuto's. Drawn by hand from archival photographs from those years.
